ABOUT

Jesse is a nationally recognized patent litigator and litigation strategist with over 21 years of experience helping clients resolve or prevent intellectual-property disputes.  A registered patent attorney since 2002, Jesse’s primary area of focus is patent litigation. Jesse has represented some of the world’s most valuable tech companies in the Federal Courts across the Country. He manages all aspects of litigations and is particularly adept at litigation strategy and oral arguments. He has argued before Judge Lucy Koh, Judge Rodney Gilstrap, Judge Mary Pat Thynge, Judge Vince Chhabria, Judge Susan van Keulen, Judge Jon McCalla, Judge Catherine C. Blake, Judge Deborah Boardman, Judge Leonie Brinkema, Judge Jan DuBOIS, and Judge Philip Gutierrez.

Beyond handling tens of litigations, Jesse is experienced in mediations, arbitrations, and administrative proceedings at the Patent Office, including Inter Partes Review (“IPRs”) (orally argued five in person) and Covered Business Method (“CBM”) Review proceedings at U.S. Patent Trial and Appeals Board, Ex Parte Reexaminations. He has also handled trademark cancellation and opposition proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeals Board (“TTAB”). Jesse has also led teams at the appellate level, including arguing before the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

Jesse has a reputation for effectively and efficiently advocating for clients whose technologies include, telecommunications, software, operating systems, cryptography, digital communications, two-factor authentication, digital security, imaging, encoding/decoding, encryption, emulsifications, and armor panels. 

T-Mobile seconded Jesse in August 2022, providing him in-house experience that helps make him a better attorney and more adept at serving clients. Jesse began his career as a patent prosecutor and has drafted or overseen the drafting of hundreds of patent applications.

Jesse is a diversity champion. He is a member of the Hispanic National Bar Association and a former INROADS scholar. 

Prior to joining Practus, Jesse was a partner at Shook, Hardy & Bacon, an Am Law 200 firm where he practiced in Shook’s intellectual-property section for over 19 years.

Jesse is a traveler, rugged outdoorsman, and avid DIY’er.  He’s been to Israel twice.  In 2018 he hiked approximately 110 miles over 11 days with his oldest son through the New Mexico wilderness on a Scout trip (a trek known as “Philmont”).  He has also built two decks and finished two full basements.
